Store Policies

Because all sales are final, we strongly encourage visiting our store to make a purchase.  This will allow you to utilize the expertise of our Bridal Consultants, and a chance to try on all of the styles you like.

Generally, orders are shipped from the manufacturer to us  10 to 16 weeks after their confirmation has been received.  Your individual order (such as a bridal gown) is always placed immediately.  Group orders (such as bridesmaid dresses) are placed once the last person in the group has placed her order.  This is to ensure all dresses are from the same dye lot. A 60% deposit is required to place any order.

The size chosen to be ordered will be your decision.  Consultants suggest sizes based upon manufacturer size charts and body measurements. When measurements are not taken by our staff, the customer assumes full responsibility for sizing.  Be sure to be measured correctly by a full service bridal shop.  If you are a bridesmaid, it is always best to talk directly to your consultant rather than relay measurements to the bride. Changes cannot be made after gowns are ordered. Most manufacturers have additional charges for sizes over size 18, extra length, and rushed orders.  Extra fabric and certain trims are generally available for purchase should they be needed.

Ship dates are always approximate and are never guaranteed.  For peace of mind, it is always best to place orders a minimum of six months before the wedding.  While every attempt is made to ensure delivery in time for your wedding, the maximum liability of A Formal Affair is limited to any amount(s) paid for an item.  We have never missed a wedding. We will always advise you if we feel your order cannot be received in time to comfortably alter your purchase.  In some cases, an alternate dress choice, is less expensive than paying rush fees. We cannot be responsible for variations in dye lots or delays beyond our control.

When bridesmaids' dresses arrive, the bride is notified by telephone and is responsible for notifying her bridesmaids. Final payments may be made with credit cards or cash only and are due within 30 days. Shipping dresses to out of town bridesmaids is best handled by the bride. No alterations are included, but we do have professionals we refer to.
